The Line

Airport Trolleys for Smooth Passenger Flow

JTD Jinta builds airport and hotel luggage carts, known as airport trolleys or luggage trolleys in British English, in aluminium alloy and stainless steel, rated from 90 kg for light terminal use up to 250 kg for baggage hall duty. Hand brake versions hold the cart on terminal ramps. Each cart carries four separate advertising panels, which is where most airports recover the cost, and a 20 ft container takes about 114 units.

Buyer FAQ

Airport Luggage Cart Questions

What are the luggage carts at airports called?

Luggage cart, baggage cart or baggage trolley; airport tenders usually say "passenger baggage trolley". Same product — a nesting cart with a bag deck and push handle, most of them carrying advertising panels.

Do airports still use luggage carts?

Yes, and fleets are replaced more often than they used to be. Carts are one of the few passenger amenities that pay for themselves, because the panels on them sell as advertising space — and a scuffed cart reflects on the terminal, so airports refresh rather than repair.

What load rating does an airport luggage cart need?

Concourse and hotel use is fine at around 90 kg — two or three cases. Baggage halls and check-in queues want 250 kg, because passengers load several large cases at once and lean on the handle. Specifying the lighter cart for a baggage hall is the common and expensive mistake.

Should we specify carts with a hand brake?

If the terminal has ramps or travelators, yes — the brake holds the cart until the handle is gripped. On a flat single-level concourse a free-rolling cart is lighter, cheaper and one less thing to maintain.

How many luggage carts fit in a container?

Roughly 114 to 184 in a 20 ft container depending on model, because they nest. On an airport-sized order the nesting pitch moves landed cost more than the unit price does, so it is worth asking for both numbers when you compare suppliers.
